Homecoming Part 1

Homecoming is an exciting and fun time. Each day has a theme, and I have included some pictures from PJ day and Celebrity Day, but learning is also going on. Mrs. Westrate does a great job as the Department Head for Social Studies in the building and even as we get fired up for the big football game, she keeps the students focused on economics, civics and history every day in the classroom. She does a fantastic job teaching and since she also co-heads student council, coaches cheer leading, leads the National Honor Society and will co-direct the spring musical this year we are very lucky to have her and all of her energy and dedication! Athletics makes a difference for our students, but the most important asset we have for our students are our fantastic teachers, like Mrs. Erin Westrate.

Fun Fair, Football, and Skinning Cats

The fun was last Friday, September 11th, and it was a great success. We served around 550 people of all ages from the community and everyone seemed to have a wonderful time. We are very pleased to host it each year at Ross Beatty, and probably has something to do with the large crowd we had in attendance at our game vs. Edwardsburg at 7:00 that night. It was the closest game we've had all year, but the Rangers pulled through with a 50-37 point victory over the Eddies.
Still, the business of the school is education, and Mr. Chapman's new Anatomy and Physiology class is getting into the meat of it as they prepare to dissect cats by skinning them. This is an amazing learning experience for our students, and they will come away with a much stronger understanding of how the body works when they are done.

Getting to the Business of Learning!

The classes are in full swing as we come to a close of our first week. Mrs. Hargrove's class is doing her famous "Jumping Jack Graph" in which students graph how many jumping jacks the can do in segments over two minutes. It is a great interactive lesson and works on a skill the students are sure to see next month on the MEAP. Great job everyone!!

Open House and Vigilant Article

Open house went really well! We went through 5 dozen cookies before it was even officially open, so I know the turn-out was fantastic. Thank you to everyone who came and all the teachers are excited to see you on Tuesday.

Remember that Tuesday is a half-day and that we release the students at 10:55. Also, this Friday is the 4th Annual Ranger Roll-Out Fun Fair starting at 4:00 PM and running until 6:30 with the opening home football game starting at 7:00 against Edwardsburg!

Finally, the article I wrote for the Vigilant is located here. It has important information. See you all next week!

A Day for Celebration!

As the students celebrated the last day and the 8th graders celebrated becoming High Schoolers, Mrs. Buck celebrated the last composition she will ever have to grade. After 40 years, she is retiring and every student she has taught will miss her. We wish her the best of luck!
This is the last weekly post until next year. I may do some infrequent and/or irregular posts in the summer, but for now I will not go back to weekly posts until next school year in September of 2009.
Have A Great Summer!

Graduation This Sunday at 2:00!

This Sunday at 2:00 PM is the Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2009. Parents and guests will be asked to enter the building through the gym doors on the west side of the building. The floor fills up fast, so be sure to get there early. Senior Honors Night was held at the Elk's Lodge in Dowagiac on Wednesday night and 80 more people than expected attended. As reported by Miss Angus, scholarships received by the seniors at that time totaled $344,800. It was a very nice evening, and it seems the word is getting out that Cassopolis celebrates our own and people want to be a part of it!

We also have field trips to Notre Dame for the 7th and 8th graders, just had a band trip to Chicago to see the Blue-Man Group, a trip for National Honor Society and A/B 10th and 11th grade Honor Roll members to the Chicago Zoo, and a variety of other exciting end-of-year activities and field trips.
