Cassopolis FFA Goes to Congress







On December 4th, The Cassoplois FFA Parliamentary Procedure team was honored on the floor of the Michigan Senate. Senator Jelinek presented them with a framed commendation and they were treated to a standing ovation by those senators in attendance. It was an amazing honor and well deserved. After that, they team was again honored on the house side by Representative Schaffer and treated to the same applause. After that, the whole team was treated to lunch in Lansing to celebrate the honor.
On December 8th, the team was recognized by the Cassopolis Board of Education with a small reception. The parents then presented them with a banner that will be hung in the gym along with the athletic banners. In addition, on December 15th, Michigan State University, the state sponsor for all FFA teams, will honor them at a reception in Lansing. This team represents the best and the brightest and we could not be prouder!

    On Monday morning the rep from Northwestern Ohio will be here to talk to any student interested in auto, diesel, racing, or heating and cooling.
    Tuesday, December 16, Baker College will be here at 10:00 AM The Marines will be here on the 18th at 9 AM
  • SCHOOL BUSES leave at 2:55 everyday. After the bell rings, get your things and get to the buses. If you are not on the bus at 2:55, you won’t be riding the bus.
  • "Rangerpalooza" admission tickets will be for sale starting Monday morning. The cost is $2. Student Senate members will be coming to all classrooms during Channel One. There are NO sales at the door for this event, so you MUST purchase your admission by Thursday, Dec. 18th. There is limited seating, therefore, get your tickets early – first come, first serve.
  • SENIORS: please make sure you turn in a senior picture for the yearbook by Jan. 9th. to Miss Borsa or Reva Ivens, there is also still room in the yearbook for a senior ad.
  • SENIORS: Project Graduation needs 5 pictures of you from birth until now, turn those in to Mrs. Anderson by Jan. 9th also.
  • 7TH/8TH Grade Girls interested in volleyball, sign-up sheet is in the office.
  • Wed., Dec. 17th – 9,10 and 12th grade ETS meetings. Friday, Dec. 19th, 7/8th grade ETS meetings.
  • Are you looking for an after-school job? A family is looking for a babysitter from 3:30 to 6:15 every day after school. The child is 8 years old and the family lives near the high school. See Mrs. Beebe before Christmas break.
  • If you are in need of service hours, see Mrs. Anderson by next Monday. At least 2 boys are needed to help here on the 19th from 5 to 8
  • Middle School yearbook photographers, remember your next set of pictures is due by next Wed.
  • "Cash for Christmas" - The cash drive will run until Dec. 19th. Please donate any change or cash you wish to give in order to provide a Merry Christmas for deserving families. We thank everyone in advance for donating to this community effort. Each 3rd hour class will be competing against each other. The class with the most money donated will receive a Friday afternoon pizza party on Dec. 19th. Let’s all help each other help others.
  • 7/8th grade wrestling sign up is in the office. Practice starts Jan. 5th.
  • There is a board meeting on January 12th at 7:00 PM in the High School Media Center.
  • Mr. Habra will be out of the building Dec. 16th for Leadership Training.
  • Dec. 17th will be the next "Hot Chocolate with the Principal." Please sign up with Mrs. Anderson.

30 Reasons NOT to miss another play at Cassopolis High School













This year's fall production was titled "30 Reasons Not To Be In A Play." It was a real treasure enjoyed by the audience and the cast alike. Special thanks to Ms. Jean Porath and all her hard work putting it together. If you missed this one, she is already getting the spring musical together! Hope to see you there :)

  • The Red Cross scholarship applications are available in guidance. You must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and community service.
  • Seniors, Please see Mrs. Herwick to double check the spelling of your name on the diploma list. The list will be sent to Herff Jones before Thanksgiving Break.
  • Herff Jones will also be taking class ring order on Dec. 9th. Deposit is required and check should be made to Herff Jones. Ring packets are in the office.

Cassopolis Holiday Celebration!

Pie in the Principal's Eye!









The students and even a teacher had fun raising money for the yearbook by throwing whipped cream pies at me. A good time was had by all!

  • Seniors, Herff Jones will be here at 10:00 on December 2nd to talk about graduation announcements and caps and gowns. Let Mrs. Herwick know if you cannot be at the meeting so she can pick up a packet for you.
  • Don't forget. If you are looking for something fun to do this weekend, come see your friends as they present 30 Reasons Not to Be in a Play. Showtimes are tonight and Saturday at 7:00 and Sunday at 2:00. Ticket prices are $4.00 for students. Hope to see you there.
  • Juniors and Seniors: If you are interested in a career in Computer-Aided Design, Electronics, Welding or precision production technology, sign up in guidance for a workshop at SMC in December. See guidance for details.
  • National Honor Society officer nominations are due to Mrs. Westrate on Monday, Nov. 24th
  • On Dec 3 at 8:30, Prestige portraits will be here to take senior pictures at a modified price. You should have received something in the mail about this. Mrs. Herwick has caps and gowns for you to borrow for the picture.

  • There is a board meeting on November 24th at 7:00 PM in the High School Media Center.
  • Mr. Habra will be out of the building Dec. 2nd for Leadership Training, on the 4th for a presentation for our FFA on the Michigan Senate Floor and on the 5th to present to the Michigan Education Association about the Plan/Do/Check/Act, Enrichment/Tutorial Model.
  • Thursday, Nov. 27th and Friday, November 28th are Thanksgiving break and there will be no students (and probably no teachers) in the building.

FFA ParliPro Team to be recognized on the State Senate Floor

On Dec. 4th, at 10:00 AM on the floor of the senate, in front of the full body of the senate, our FFA Parliamentary Procedure team will be honored by Senator Ron Jelinek.   • Monday Nov. 10th Bible Release.
  • College representatives are speaking with interested students. Please note the following dates and sign up in guidance to see these reps:
    WMU – on Nov. 11
    Olivet will be here Nov. 12th
  • We will be offering the ASVAB test this year if enough students sign up to
    take it. ASVAB stands for Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, and
    tests your aptitude for various interests and skills. The test will be
    given in December, so please sign up as soon as possible if you are
    interested. There is no cost to students and does not obligate you to the
    Armed Services in any way.
  • Are you interested in a career in any type of medical care, early childhood
    education or fire science? Then you might want to sign up to attend the
    workshop at SMC on November 19. If enough really interested students sign
    up we will provide transportation..
  • High school basketball cheer practice tryouts will be next Monday and
    Tuesday from 3 to 4. Try outs will be on Wednesday, Nov. 12th right after
    school. You MUST attend at least one of these practices in order to try
    out.
  • FALL Athletic awards for high school athletics will be next Tuesday, Nov.
    11th at 6:30 in the auditorium.
  • If you signed up to attend the Etiquette Workshop on Nov. 12th, please
    return your permission slip to Mrs. Beebe as soon as possible.
  • High school girls basketball officially starts next Monday. Everyone needs
    to have a physical. Practice will be after school until approx. 5:30.
  • It’s that time of year when we start to think about the Holiday season. How
    would you like to receive a Best Buy gift card worth $50 ? Mrs. Bright is
    asking for your help. A name and theme needs to be decided for the new
    serving line where you can purchase pretzels, nachos, etc. Students will
    vote on the best idea given and the winner will receive the gift card.
    Submit your ideas to Mrs. Bright by Wed., Nov. 19th and the winner will be
    announced on Wed., Nov. 26th . Good Luck!!!
  • Students, you will not be allowed in the building until 7:00.
  • Jr. High and high school students, staff and their families are
    participating in the community Outreach Project to help adopt 4 families.
    The Thanksgiving Food Drive runs through Nov. 14th for canned food and
    starting Nov. 17 through Nov. 26 will be for boxed food, all varieties of
    food will be accepted. Students will receive a thicket stub for each item
    brought in a drawing will be held Nov. 26th for a large pizza, 2 lt. Pop,
    chips and a movie rental. Tickets can be purchased for 2 for $1.00 or 12
    for $5.00.
  • 7/8th grade cheerleaders, remember to give your $11 to Mrs. Anderson as soon
    as possible
  • There is a board meeting on November 10th at 7:00 PM in the High School Media Center.
  • November 19th there will be another Hot Chocolate with the Principal. Please sign up with Mrs. Anderson in the office if you would like to talk with him, have an issue, concern, or like Hot Chocolate.

Food Tasting



This week our Director of Food Service, Mrs. Robyn Bright and our Health teacher, Mr. Matt Brawley took the health class to Century Center in South Bend to the Stanz Food Show. There the students and Business Manager, Mr. Scott Thomas, learned a great deal about the nutrition of school lunches and then spent the afternoon tasting and filling out surveys on all the different foods from the many vendors. The students diligent work and opinions will determine what we eat here at Cassopolis Public Schools for the next year! I hope they chose wisely.





October Objectives



I can use integers, positive and negative whole numbers, in a variety of situations.



I can write and identify the beginning, middle and end in a piece of writing.


  • High School students who are interested in Science Olympiad need to see Mr.
    Chapman or Miss Hawkins ASAP.

    WMU – on Nov. 11

  • Anyone interested in taking an ACT prep class or receiving tutoring help after school please see Miss Angus.
  • Need community service hours? Students are needed to sell hot chocolate at
    the Dowagiac Christmas parade on December 5. This can be a lot of fun.
    Only six students are needed, so see Mrs. Beebe as soon as possible.
  • Seniors interested in attending Baker College Culinary Institute or Auto/Diesel Institute, check out scholarship opportunities on the guidance bulletin board.
  • High school wrestling conditioning starts next Monday, Nov. 3rd, 3:00 to
    4:00 in the wrestling room. If you are in season and are planning to
    wrestle, it would be a good idea to be there.
  • The Jr. High is collecting candy for the "Haunted Halls". Please bring in a
    bag of candy to the office.
  • Seniors, Keondra Williams has the order forms for the senior class shirts.
    Your money is due with your order. Please make checks payable to Cassopolis
    Public Schools. Please have money and orders in by Nov. 6th.
  • The Cass Co. Council on Aging is again offering the Life Skills Etiquette
    Workshop on November 12 from 8:30 AM until 2:15 PM. Breakfast and lunch
    will be served, and you will have the opportunity to attend several
    interesting and informative sessions. Dress clothes must be worn - no
    jeans. Space is limited, so if you are interested in attending, please see
    Ms. Angus or Mrs. Beebe in guidance as soon as possible. Thank you.
